SGS Overlord is a stand-alone game that covers WW2 operations in Normandy from June 6th, 1944, until the end of August, when the battle largely ends.
The game uses 3-day turns to cover the entire Normandy operation from D-Day onwards.
As the German, you must hold the front for as long as possible, as each week you delay the Allies increases the chances of survival for the Reich. As the Allies commander, you must use American, Canadian, British, and French forces to gain a solid foothold and then break out from Normandy towards Paris, aiming to win the war by Christmas.
The Scenarios:
The game recreates different phases of the Normandy battle, either in a full grand campaign covering the whole period or in shorter scenarios at various starting points.
– Grand Campaign: Covers the entire campaign from June 6th to the last days of August, lasting 30 turns of 3 days each (June 6th to September 3rd, 1944). [30 turns]
– Bocage: A shorter post-landing campaign focusing on the tough fight in the Normandy bocage from June 30th to the last days of August. This scenario lasts 22 turns of 3 days (June 30th to September 3rd, 1944). [22 turns]
– Race for Cherbourg: The Allies aim to capture Cherbourg, a vital deep-water port. This scenario lasts 4 weeks (June 6th to June 26th, 1944). [7 turns]
– Operation Cobra: Covers the famous operation where American forces under Patton and Bradley broke out from Normandy after defeating the Germans at Avranches. This scenario lasts 7 weeks (July 2nd to August 18th, 1944). [15 turns]

One player controls the German forces (Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, or Waffen SS), while the other commands a mix of American, British, Canadian, Polish, and French troops fighting for the Allies.
The Germans have high-quality troops and strong defensive positions, benefiting from the protective terrain of Normandy, including marshes, woods, forests, and the infamous ‘Bocage Normand.’ At key moments, they can gain local superiority and challenge the Allies.
The Allies, with their air superiority, must secure key points early, unite their beachheads, and hold a port to ensure supplies. Reinforcements and numbers will eventually tell, unless the Germans skillfully use the terrain and weather to their advantage.
Be aware of the importance of weather (which affects air superiority) and supply (which mostly affects the Allies). Both can turn the campaign into a positional warfare similar to WW1, rather than the expected fast and strong Blitzkrieg.
